At Lifetime Dental Care, our team evaluates and manages wisdom teeth issues for teens and adults at our Oxnard and Santa Paula offices. Whether your wisdom teeth are causing pain, growing in at an angle, or haven't erupted yet but are showing signs of future problems, we guide you through every step from diagnosis to recovery.
Most people develop four wisdom teeth between the ages of 17 and 25. When there isn't enough room in the jaw for them to come in properly, they can become impacted, push against neighboring teeth, or cause infection. Early evaluation allows us to identify potential problems before they become painful or lead to more complex treatment.

Wisdom teeth are most commonly evaluated and removed between the ages of 16 and 25, when the roots are not yet fully developed and the bone around the teeth is less dense. Removal during this window typically results in easier extraction, faster healing, and fewer complications. However, wisdom teeth can be removed at any age if they're causing problems. Our team monitors wisdom tooth development in teen patients during routine checkups so we can recommend the right timing.
Not necessarily. Some patients only have one or two problematic wisdom teeth, and removing all four isn't always required. However, if X-rays show that all four are likely to cause issues, removing them in a single appointment is often recommended to avoid multiple procedures and recovery periods. Your dentist will explain which teeth need to come out and why based on your specific situation.
Dry socket occurs when the blood clot that forms in the extraction site is dislodged or dissolves too early, exposing the underlying bone and nerves. It causes a sharp, radiating pain that typically begins two to four days after extraction. To reduce the risk, avoid using straws, spitting, smoking, and vigorous rinsing for at least 72 hours after your procedure. Following your aftercare instructions closely is the best way to prevent dry socket.
