Straightening your teeth isn't just cosmetic. Properly aligned teeth are easier to clean, less prone to decay, and reduce your risk of jaw pain and uneven wear. Our team has extensive experience working with children, teens, and adults, and we take the time to recommend the right treatment at the right time for every patient.

Your Smile Is Our Priority

What to Expect During Your Orthodontic Consultation

  • Comprehensive Evaluation. Your visit begins with a thorough exam including digital X-rays, photos, and an assessment of your teeth, jaw, and bite alignment. We evaluate the severity of misalignment, crowding, spacing, or bite issues and determine whether braces are the right treatment option.
  • Treatment Recommendation. Our team explains what we found, shows you the X-rays and photos, and walks you through the recommended treatment plan. We discuss the type of braces best suited for your case, the estimated treatment timeline, and what results you can expect.
  • Cost and Payment Planning. Before treatment begins, we provide a clear cost breakdown including what your insurance covers and your out-of-pocket responsibility. Our team works with you to make orthodontic treatment fit your budget so finances don't stand in the way of a straighter smile.
  • Braces Placement. When you're ready to begin, brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected with an archwire. The process is painless and typically takes one to two hours. Our team explains how to care for your braces, what foods to avoid, and what to expect during the first few days as your teeth begin to adjust.

Common Conditions Braces Correct

  • Crowding. When there isn't enough room in the jaw for all teeth to fit properly, they overlap and rotate. Crowded teeth are harder to brush and floss, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Braces gradually create space and move teeth into proper alignment.
  • Overbite. An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth extend too far over the lower teeth. Severe overbites can cause uneven wear on lower teeth, jaw pain, and difficulty biting into food. Braces correct the relationship between upper and lower teeth.
  • Underbite. An underbite occurs when the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth. This can affect chewing, speech, and facial appearance. Early treatment in children can guide jaw growth, while braces in teens and adults correct tooth positioning.
  • Crossbite. A crossbite occurs when one or more upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth instead of outside. Left untreated, crossbites can cause uneven jaw growth, tooth wear, and gum recession. Braces correct crossbites by moving the affected teeth into their proper position.
  • Gaps and Spacing. Gaps between teeth can result from missing teeth, small teeth, or jaw size discrepancies. Braces close gaps and distribute spacing evenly for a more uniform, easier-to-maintain smile.

Why Oxnard and Santa Paula Families Choose Lifetime Dental Care for Braces

Families throughout Oxnard and Santa Paula choose Lifetime Dental Care for orthodontic treatment because we already know their smiles. Many of our braces patients have been coming to us for cleanings and exams since they were toddlers, so we have years of X-rays and developmental records that inform exactly when and how to start treatment.

We accept a diverse range of PPO insurance plans and work with patients to make orthodontic treatment affordable. Veterans and military families should ask about our military discounts.

We Work With The Following Insurances & Accept Most PPOs

Most patients wear braces for 12 to 24 months, though treatment time varies based on the severity of the alignment issues. Minor crowding or spacing may be corrected in under a year, while more complex cases involving bite correction can take up to 30 months. Your dentist provides an estimated timeline during your consultation and keeps you updated on progress throughout treatment.

Braces do not hurt during placement. Some soreness and pressure are normal for the first three to five days after braces are placed and after each adjustment appointment. This discomfort is temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and soft foods. Most patients adjust quickly and find that soreness decreases with each subsequent adjustment.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial evaluation by age 7. This doesn't mean your child will get braces at 7. Early evaluation allows us to identify developing issues like crossbite, crowding, or jaw growth problems and determine whether early intervention is beneficial or if it's better to monitor and wait. Our team tracks your child's development during routine checkups and recommends the right timing for treatment.

Yes. There is no age limit for braces. Adult braces correct the same issues as teen braces, including crowding, gaps, overbite, underbite, and crossbite. Treatment may take slightly longer for adults since the jaw is fully developed, but the results are equally effective. Many of our adult patients wish they had started sooner and are glad they finally made the decision.
